The Indie Film Scene
Since I'm going to be looking at producing promotional material for this project, I've started looking into what currently exists on the independent movie scene. Locally, Sheffield run a Digital Media festival, known as "Doc/Fest." As you can see from the featured image & the website I have linked, the overall appearance is very gritty, battered & worn, which I think is a recognisable feel for the industry. It is this sort of look I would like to pursue, as clearly it appeals to many people. I also think that this type of graphic design also reflects the indie movies themselves, particularly ones focused locally & looking at real life situations, which I think is perfect for the project I have in mind.
Silent Cities: Creative Spaces
I've chosen to look at the Creative Spaces brief for Silent Cities. Below is my proposal I'd like to put forward for my project.
"Silent Cities requires a series of short films, made to promote the silent voices in various cities across the country. In order to obtain these films, Silent Cities is offering independent, low budget film makers a chance to get their own voices heard by producing short films to promote the causes of each city. Creative Spaces will offer these film makers a chance to work away from home, meet up in their groups & discuss possibilities for projects, as well as use the available equipment for research, editing, presentations etc. Offering independent film makers a chance to shine, in turn serves two purposes, it enables them to get their own foot in the door in terms of a platform for recognition, whilst providing each “Silent” city with it’s own voice in the form of a short promotional video, which could then be distributed to various charities & organisations in each city.
Creative Spaces can be office/desk space, available in various UK cities (Sheffield, Bradford, Leeds etc). Each of these cities will require a charitable, promotional video, placing emphasis on the more vulnerable, “silent” voices in the city. These creative spaces will then be made available to independent film makers who require space to meet up, produce & edit their videos on their chosen city. Creative Spaces will be promoted in a way that asks for these film makers to take part in the project, using the office space as a place to do it."
